金融工程（Financial Engineering）（這只是一個統(tǒng)稱，各個學校的叫法不同，包括了金融數(shù)學，數(shù)學金融，計算金融或者數(shù)理金融（Financial Engineering， Financial Mathematics，Mathematical Finance，Computational Finance）。這是一個具有交叉學科性質的學科，主要以數(shù)學工具來建立金融市場模型和解決金融問題。除了金融的專業(yè)知識外，往往還包括了數(shù)學、統(tǒng)計、物理以及計算機語言等，因此往往由多個院系聯(lián)合授課，根據(jù)專業(yè)側重點的不同，可能設在商學院下，也可能設在工學院或數(shù)學系下。將金融工程設立在工學院內的學校有Princeton　U，Columbia　U，Cornell，U of Michigan－Ann Arbor等，設在數(shù)學系下面的有Stanford U，U of Chicago，New York U，U of Southern California，Georgia Institute of Technology等。

金融工程會要求四方面的背景：數(shù)學，金融，計算機，統(tǒng)計；通常有一方面背景就可以申請了，但是最好四方面都有，比如說這位同學問的佛羅里達。弗羅里達的這個項目是個PhD目，PhD program with concentration in Quantitative Finance是四個學院的交叉項目：
