金融工程（Financial Engineering）（這只是一個(gè)統(tǒng)稱，各個(gè)學(xué)校的叫法不同，包括了金融數(shù)學(xué)，數(shù)學(xué)金融，計(jì)算金融或者數(shù)理金融（Financial Engineering， Financial Mathematics，Mathematical Finance，Computational Finance）。這是一個(gè)具有交叉學(xué)科性質(zhì)的學(xué)科，主要以數(shù)學(xué)工具來建立金融市場(chǎng)模型和解決金融問題。除了金融的專業(yè)知識(shí)外，往往還包括了數(shù)學(xué)、統(tǒng)計(jì)、物理以及計(jì)算機(jī)語言等，因此往往由多個(gè)院系聯(lián)合授課，根據(jù)專業(yè)側(cè)重點(diǎn)的不同，可能設(shè)在商學(xué)院下，也可能設(shè)在工學(xué)院或數(shù)學(xué)系下。將金融工程設(shè)立在工學(xué)院內(nèi)的學(xué)校有Princeton　U，Columbia　U，Cornell，U of Michigan－Ann Arbor等，設(shè)在數(shù)學(xué)系下面的有Stanford U，U of Chicago，New York U，U of Southern California，Georgia Institute of Technology等。

金融工程會(huì)要求四方面的背景：數(shù)學(xué)，金融，計(jì)算機(jī)，統(tǒng)計(jì)；通常有一方面背景就可以申請(qǐng)了，但是最好四方面都有，比如說這位同學(xué)問的佛羅里達(dá)。弗羅里達(dá)的這個(gè)項(xiàng)目是個(gè)PhD目，PhD program with concentration in Quantitative Finance是四個(gè)學(xué)院的交叉項(xiàng)目：

Industrial and Systems Engineering (College of Engineering),

Mathematics (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences),

Statistics (College of Liberal Arts & Sciences),

Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate (College of Business). ）

學(xué)校的要求是：

Students seeking admission to the concentration should have strong quantitative skills and a degree in one of the relevant fields such as finance, engineering, statistics, or mathematics. Students with a background in several disciplines are welcome.
